Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy
Serving You With Specialized CareAllergy Testing and Immunotherapy Services
Minden Medical Clinic offers on-site allergy testing and immunotherapy for patients 7 years of age and older provided by Dr. Douglas Althouse.
A skin prick test checks for immediate allergic reactions to many different substances at once. Information obtained from the test helps develop an allergy treatment plan that includes allergen avoidance, medications, or allergy shots (immunotherapy). Allergy skin tests are used to help diagnose conditions such as:
- Hay fever (allergic rhinitis)
- Allergic asthma
- Dermatitis (eczema)
- Food allergies
- Penicillin allergy
- Bee venom allergy
What is an allergy?
Allergies are caused by abnormal responses to the immune system when the immune system reacts to a usually harmless substance in the environment. These substances could be pollen, mold, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect stings, etc. and are referred to as allergens.
- One of 5 adults and 4 of 10 children suffer from allergies.
- One of every 2 patients test positive for one or more allergens.
- Allergies are the 5th most common chronic disease across all ages
What are symptoms of allergies?
Consider being tested for seasonal, respiratory, or skin allergies if you regularly experience:
- Nagging cough
- Itchy watery eyes
- Rashes or hives
- Frequent sneezing
- Stuffy nose
- Congestion
